DUSHANBE, February 29, 2016, Asia-Plus – Tajik President Emomali Rahmon today received China’s Special Representatives for Counterterrorism and Security Matters, Mr. Cheng Guoping, according to the Tajik president’s official websites.

In the course of the talks, the two sides discussed issues related to bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and China in the field of security.

Rahmon reportedly noted that China was a reliable partner and good neighbor of Tajikistan.

The two also exchanged views on the latest developments in Afghanistan and issues of providing regional security.

Today, Mr. Cheng also held talks with Tajik Interior Ministry Ramazon Rahimzoda.

According to the Interior Ministry’s website, Rahimzoda and Cheng discussed cooperation in combating terrorism, extremism and separatism, exchanging experience and information, and training personnel for Tajik law enforcement authorities.

The two also discussed issues related to providing technical assistance to the Tajik side, construction of a new building for Tajikistan’s Interior Ministry Academy, and creation of a joint counterterrorism center in Dushanbe.

Mr. Cheng reportedly noted that China was ready to expand security cooperation with Tajikistan and provide assistance to it in that direction.

We will recall that a Chinese delegation, led by Mr. Cheng Guoping, Special Representatives for Counterterrorism and Security Matters, arrived in Dushanbe on a three-day visit on February 28.

Besides, the Chief of General Staff of the People”s Liberation Army (PLA) of the People”s Republic of China, who is also member of the Central Military Commission, General Fang Fenghui, also arrived in Dushanbe on Sunday on a two-day visit.

He has held talks with Tajik Defense Minister Sherali Mirzo and Tajik President Emomali Rahmon to discuss cooperation.
