CIS Information Council meets in Dushanbe

DUSHANBE, March 15, 2016, Asia-Plus – The 21st meeting of the council of chiefs of the CIS national news agencies (CIS Information Council) kicked off in Dushanbe today.

The meeting has reportedly brought together heads of national news agencies from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, and Tajikistan.  Chairman of the CIS Information Council Sergey Mikhailov and representatives of the CIS Executive Committee are also participating in the meeting.

During two days, the meeting participants will review the results of work in 2015 and discuss cooperation plans for 2016.       

They will also discuss the interaction between photo services and preparations for the celebrations of the 25th anniversary of the Commonwealth of Independent States and exchange views on the implementation of joint projects.

The CIS information Council was set up on November 3, 1995 in line with a relevant agreement between the governments of the CIS member states.  One of the main tasks of the national news agencies of the CIS member nations is to inform people about the integration processes in the CIS.  The Information Council pays special attention to new media technologies and cooperation in their application.
