DUSHANBE, June 28, 2016, Asia-Plus – The Delegation of the European Union to Tajikistan says that during the first National steering committee meeting arranged by Central Asia Drug Action Programme – Phase 6 (CADAP-6), a short overview of the current program implementation in Tajikistan in 2015-2016 and plan of activities for 2016-2017 were presented and discussed with CADAP national partners from Drug Control Agency, Ministry of Health and Social Protection, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Education and Sciences, Custom Committee under the Government of Tajikistan and local NGO.
CADAP 6 represents continuity of the EU policy and long term engagement with Central Asian partners to help further strengthen their national policies in drug demand reduction and is funded by the European Union and implemented by a Consortium from the Netherlands, Czech Republic, Poland and Germany led by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.
Representatives of the EU Delegations in Tajikistan, German Embassy in Tajikistan, GIZ office, UNODC and CADAP 6 team took part in the meeting to agree on future perspectives and planned joint efforts.
The next steps in the program implementation in Tajikistan were discussed and agreements were reached with representatives of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection and Drug Control Agency under the President of Tajikistan.
CADAP National steering committee meetings are convened once a year in Central Asian countries to promote further dialogue and exchange of information among the national authorities involved in the program together with the EU and implementation partners. In this way, EU and National Governments’ partners of CADAP ensure a better understanding and ownership of the program.
