DUSHANBE, August 19, 2016, Asia-Plus – Tajik high school students have reportedly won silver and bronze at the 28th International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) that took place in Kazan, the capital of Russia’s Republic of Tatarstan from August 12 to August 19.

Tuichi Rasidov, Deputy Head of the Tajik-Russian Lyceum “Hotam and P.V.”, says grade 10 student Farhod Hakimiyon from the Lyceum for Talented Children has won silver and grade 11 student Nodir Daminov from the Tajik-Russian Lyceum “Hotam and P.V.” has won bronze. 

Tajikistan’s team that consisted of five students has reportedly gained 860 scores, leaving behind nearly a half of teams participating in the Olympiad.  In all, 88 teams participated in the 28th IOI in Kazan.  

Kyrgyz, Turkmen and Uzbek teams have gained 686, 337 and 275 scores respectively, Rashidov said.   

In total, 327 senior high school students reprotedly arrived in Kazan for the event. The Olympiad is supervised by UNESCO and has been held since 1989.  25 countries have hosted the IOI (Greece and Bulgaria – twice each).  Russia has welcomed the Olympiad for the first time, having outbid Japan and Azerbaijan.

The International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) is an annual informatics competition for schoolchildren. It has a flag with a logo, an official website ioinformatics.org  and a scientific journal included in the international database of peer-reviewed literature Scopus.  An IOI theoretical and practical conference is also traditionally held during the Olympiad.

This year, the competition ran in Kazan from August 12 to August 19.  The organizers of the Olympiad were the Ministry of Education and Science RF and the Ministry of Telecom and Mass Communications RF, the Ministry of Information and Communications of the Republic of Tatarstan, and Kazan Federal University.
