The share of the agrarian sector in Tajikistan’s gross domestic product (GDP) structure is gradually decreasing while the share of the industrial sector in the country’s GDP is increasing.

According to data from the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, Tajikistan’s gross domestic product (GDP) for the first eight months of this year has been estimated at 32.351 billion somoni, an increase of 6.7 percent over the same period last year in comparable prices.

In January-August this year, the share of agriculture, hunting and forestry in the country’s GDP structure was 17.8 percent, while the share of industry and energy was 15.1 percent.

Compared to the same period last year the share of the agrarian sector in the country’s GDP structure has decreased, while the share of the industrial sector has increased.

Over the past one and a half year, the share of the agrarian sector in Tajikistan’s GDP structure has fallen 5.7 percent, while the share of the industrial sector in the country’s GDP structure has risen 3.1 percent.

In 2014, the agrarian sector accounted for 23.5 percent of Tajikistan’s overall GDP, while the agrarian sector accounted for only 12 percent of the country’s GDP.

The Tajik authorities plan to transform Tajikistan into industrial-agrarian country in the coming decades.

In a report released at a news conference in Dushanbe, Ms. Farida Muninova, the deputy head of the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, noted in July that the government has worked out the national development strategy for the period until 2030.

According to her, one of the main tasks of the strategy is Tajikistan’s transition from agrarian-industrial into industrial-agrarian country.

“One of the main factors that transform a country agriculture to industry is consolidation of public and private resources,” Ms. Muminova said.
