The leader of the Social Democrats of Tajikistan is sure that there is no civil society in the country, and against this background a multiparty system is just a myth.

“In today's Tajikistan, there is no system for the existence of political parties, and since political parties are a kind of "product" of civil society, I declare with full responsibility that in our country there is no civil society today”, said the leader of the Social- Democratic Party of Tajikistan Rakhmatillo Zoyirov.

According to him, the multi-party system, announced by the authorities, in fact is simply absent in Tajikistan. “In the US, for example, there are officially over 200 political parties, but in fact there are two opposing parties – democratic and republican. And in Tajikistan we have only one – the ruling People's Democratic Party”, – Zoyirov says.

At the same time, the leader of the SDPT stated that he categorically disagrees with the proposal of Alim Sherzamonov, the head of the Goro-Badakhshan regional cell of the party, about the suspension of the SDPT.

“Such a procedure as “a temporary suspension of the party's activities” does not exist at all, I consider Sherzamonov's proposals illogica”, – Zoyirov says.

He recalled that political parties are created in order to achieve their program goals through political struggle, within the framework of the laws in force in their country.

The leader of the SDPT stated that in the current situation in Tajikistan his party refrained from loud statements, but it exists, it did not stop its activities, although the majority of followers are outside the country, in migration.

Zoyirov said that he recently has to spend a lot of time outside of Tajikistan.

“For known reasons, I can not work in Tajikistan as a lawyer to earn for a trip to Russia and Kazakhstan. In addition, the SDPT spent a lot of money on elections to the country's parliament in 2015, which we received on credit, and now we must return them”, Zoyirov said.

Recall that Alim Sherzamonov in an interview with a number of media outlets stated that now it's time to suspend the activities of the Social Democratic Party of Tajikistan, as there are no conditions for the work of political parties in the republic.
