The first meeting of Tajikistan-Kazakhstan Business Council took place in Dushanbe on August 9-12.

Senior representatives of Kazakhstan’s Export Insurance Company “KazakhExport” and twenty other Kazakh companies operating in construction, agricultural, industrial and other sectors have arrived in Dushanbe to participate in the  Tajikistan-Kazakhstan Business Council meeting.

Head of KazakhExport Board, Ruslan Iskakov, has told Asia-Plus that economic cooperation between Kazakhstan and Tajikistan is developing and the two-way trade between the two countries is expected to reach 1 billion U.S. dollars by the end of this year.

“In the medium term, our countries intend to increase the mutual trade to 2 billion U.S. dollars,” Mr. Iskakov noted.

The mission of the Joint-Stock Company (JSC) “KazakhExport” is to support the rise in exports of non-primary goods, works, and services in priority sectors of the economy and to develop the practice of financial-insurance and non-financial support of Kazakhstan enterprises.

Recall, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon on April 27 this year received Kazakh First Deputy Prime Minister, Askar Mamin.

Mamin said agreements reached between Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev and Rahmon in Astana in March brought bilateral ties to a new level.

“The heads of state set the task to the governments of Kazakhstan and Tajikistan to increase trade turnover to $2 billion,” Mamin said, expressing Kazakhstan’s readiness to help achieve that goal.

Mamin also discussed in Dushanbe bilateral cooperation on the Protocol of the Consultative Meeting in Astana with Tajik Prime Minister, Qohir Rasoulzoda, and First Deputy Prime Minister, Said Davlatali.

Interregional relations, direct contacts between Kazakh and Tajik businesses and the unlocking of export potential were also discussed.
