On September 27-28, the working visit of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Tajikistan in the Alisher Navoi park in the capital will be erected   monument to the classics of Tajik and Uzbek literature Abdurahmon Jomi and Alisher Navoi.

The author of the sculpture to the great thinkers of two nations is the sculptor, Honored Artist of Tajikistan, professor of the Khujand State University Gafur Juraev.

The decision to establish the monument, Emomali Rahmon signed on the eve of the state visit of Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in Dushanbe in early March. At the same time, the president renamed the capital park "50 – solagii javonon" ("50th anniversary of the youth") at the park named after Alisher Navoi.

President instructed the Mayor of the capital Rustam Emomali to hold a competition for the best project of the monument to Abdurahmon Jomi and Alisher Navoi as a sign of friendship between the nations of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.  It’s winner became Ghafur Juraev.

In the metropolitan administration reported that it was decided not to distribute it’s photo in the media before the official opening of the monument. The monument is already installed on the pedestal in the park opposite the Committee for Emergency Situations, however it is hidden from visitors by a blanket.

Jomi and Navoi – teacher and student

We contacted the sculptor, who is currently on his way to the capital, by phone. «In my creation, Jomi and Navoi are depicted as a teacher and student. In my opinion, it is impossible to portray a teacher and a disciple as friends, and I tried in my work to portray two thinkers as a mentor and his follower», – Juraev noted.

He recalled that Alisher Navoi always called Abdurahmon Jomi his mentor, not his friend.

Sculptor said that the monument is made of aluminum.

Ghafur Juraev is the author of the monuments of Kamoli Khujandi in Khujand, Sadriddin Ayni in the capital's eponymous park, Ismoili Somoni in Zafarabad, Nakibhon Tugral, which installed in Ayni district.
