Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper house of parliament) Speaker, Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev, today met in Moscow with State Duma (Russia’s lower chamber of parliament) Speaker Vyacheskav Volodin.  Ubaidulloyev reportedly asked Volodin to assist with providing social protection to Tajik labor migrants.

Ubaidulloyev drew attention of Volodin to the necessity of solving the issues of providing pensions to Tajik labor migrants by employers, one of members of Tajik delegation told Asia-Plus by phone.

The two reportedly also discussed issues related to medical insurance for Tajik labor migrants working in Russia and migrant children's school enrolment.

Ubaidulloyev noted that Tajikistan attaches significant importance to its cooperation with the Russian Federation.

He asked Russian parliamentarians to consider the possibility of providing assistance with construction of one more Russia-language school in Tajikistan.

Volodin, for his part, noted that bilateral cooperation between Russia and Tajikistan has been expanding.

“Over the first seven months of this year, the two-way trade between Russia and Tajikistan has increased significantly; a 34.9-percent growth speaks for itself,” Russian parliament speaker noted.

Volodin stated that Russia appreciates Tajikistan’s support for development of the Russian language and teaching of the Russia language at schools, according to the State Duma’s website.

He noted that many Tajik students have been studying at high educational institutions in Russia and construction of five Russian-language schools is under way.

Recall, Majlisi Milli Speaker Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev heading a parliamentary delegation is currently in Moscow for participation in the Sixth Tajik-Russian Inter-Parliamentary Forum entitled “Tajikistan-Russia: Potential of Inter-Region Collaboration.”

The delegation members include members of the Majlisi Milli and senior representatives of government’s economic and social blocs, including Economic Development and Trade Minister Nematullo Himatullozoda, Industry and New Technologies Minister Shavkat Bobozda and Labor Minister Sumangul Taghoyzoda,
