Uzbek parliamentary delegation is expected to pay visit to Tajikistan next week.  It will be the first ever visit of Uzbek parliamentary delegation to Tajikistan.

“Led by Nuriddinjon Ismailov, Speaker of the Legislative Chamber (Uzbekistan’s lower house of parliament), the Uzbek delegation is expected to arrive in Dushanbe on November 19 on a three-day visit,” the head of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) Committee on International Affairs, Public Associations and Information, Olim Salimzoda, told Asia-Plus in an interview.     

According to him, Uzbek MPs are scheduled to hold talks with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and speakers of both chambers of Tajikistan’s parliament. 

Tajik and Uzbek MPs reportedly intend to discuss issues related to bilateral cooperation in the field of legislation and establishment of direct contacts between elected representatives of the two countries.

While in Tajikistan, Uzbek parliamentarians will also visit the Nurek hydroelectric power plant (HPP) and the TALCO Cable plant.  The will also visit the Tajik National library and the Kokhi Navrouz State Complex in Dushanbe.   

Initiated by the leaders of the two countries, it will be the first ever visit of Uzbek parliamentary delegation to Tajikistan. 

The Legislative Chamber is the lower house of the Oliy Majlis (Supreme Assembly) of the Republic of Uzbekistan. It has 150 members, 135 elected for a five-year term in single-seat constituencies using the two-round system and 15 elected by the Ecological Movement of Uzbekistan.
