Tajik and Uzbek state-run railway companies have discussed the possibility of providing mutual discounts on rail transit this year.

Top managers of Rohi Ohani Tojikiston (Tajik Railways) and 'Oʻzbekiston Temir Yoʻllari' (Uzbekistan Railways) reportedly met in the Uzbek capital, Tashkent, on January 24 to discuss cooperation.

According to the Uzbekistan Railways press center, the meeting was organized for the purpose of promoting further mutually beneficial cooperation.

A special attention was reportedly given to the issues related to increasing the volumes of transit cargo.  The two sides also discussed the possibility of providing mutual discounts in 2019.

The meeting ended with signing of a protocol of intent.

Recall, Uzbekistan last year cut the rail transit cargo fees for Tajikistan on average by 40 percent.  Thus, the transit fees for cargo carried along the Keles-Kudukli and the Khojadavlat-Kudukli rail routes were cut by 40 percent.  The transit fee for oil products carried along the Karakalpakstan-Kudukli rail route was cut by 30 percent and the transit fee for other goods carried along this route was cut by 50 percent.
