Representatives of twenty-one Tajikistan tourist companies have participated in the ITB Berlin (Internationale Tourismus-Börse Berlin) to present the country’s tourism opportunities.

15,000 tourist companies put on display their achievements in tourism and relevant industries at the fair that officially opened on March 5 and ran through March 9.

On March 6, the head of Tajik delegation Shirin Amonzoda, who is deputy chairman of the Tourism Development Agency under the Government of Tajikistan, and Sohibnazar Ghairatsho, Tajikistan’s Ambassador to Germany, participated in the 9th meeting of tourism ministers of countries participating in the UNWTO Great Silk Road Program.

Organized by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and supported by ITB Berlin, the meeting focused on collaborative opportunities and tourism projects aimed at strengthening regional cohesion.

During a meeting with representatives of the World Bank, they discussed issues related to attracting investments in development of Tajikistan’s tourism infrastructure.

For the second year, ITB Berlin hosted on March 6 the ‘Best of Top 100’ awards event: a selection of the finest Top 100 destinations based on jury-reviewed sustainability success stories submitted by the Top 100 destinations.

The Pamir Mountains of Tajikistan were reportedly listed again on the Sustainable Destinations Top 100 list.

The Pamir Mountains of Tajikistan cover the area of Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Oblast (GBAO) and are part of a greater plateau stretching towards Afghanistan in the south, China in the east and Kyrgyzstan in the north. The destination promotes sustainable tourism as a way of supporting local people by creating fair job opportunities for everyone, including for such disadvantaged groups as single mothers and people from remote areas. In addition to destination marketing and product development, the Pamirs Eco Cultural Tourism Association (PECTA) works on preserving the historical heritage of the Pamirs, including protection of natural resources: support of the Tajik National Park – a UNESCO nature heritage site – is among its protection of natural resources initiative.

ITB Berlin is the world's leading travel trade show, which is a must-attend event for every international expert in the tourism industry. This is where companies and organizations meet, as well as top decision-makers, experts, buyers and young professionals from every touristic area: Hotels, tourism organizations, tour operators, travel agencies, transport companies, booking portals, systems providers and all the others.
