Meteorologists have warned against torrential rains that are expected to hit today and tomorrow practically the whole country, with the exception of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO).

According to the Hydrometeorology Agency (Hydromet), torrential rains are hitting Dushanbe, Hisor, Yovon, Kulob, Shamsiddin-Shohin (formerly Shouroobod), Khovaling, Muminobod, Istaravshan and Panjakent.

Weather forecasters also expect thunderstorms and hail in Darband and Varzob districts

Tomorrow, the daytime temperatures are expected to fall in plains by 8ºC-10ºC.

The expected rise in water levels in Yakhsou, Obikhingou, Kofarnihon, Elok and Surkhob rivers as well as in tributaries of the Zaravshon River reportedly can cause floods and mudslides.

There is also risk of avalanches in mountain areas at an altitude of more than 3,000 meters above sea level, weather forecasters say.
