Outgoing Indian Ambassador to Tajikistan Shri Somnath Ghosh conferred here Wednesday (July 3) with Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin at the end of his tenure to the Republic of Tajikistan.   

In the course of the talks, the two expressed satisfaction with the dynamic development of relationships between Tajikistan and India and underlined the necessity of practical implementation of agreements that were reached between the two countries during negotiations at the highest level that took place in Dushanbe in October 2018, according to the Tajik MFA information department.   

Tajik minister reportedly appreciated Indian diplomat’s fruitful work and expressed confidence that he would make contribution to further expansion of Tajik-Indian cooperation in the future as well.  

Mr. Shri Somnath Ghosh had served as India’s Ambassador to Tajikistan since May 2016.

Diplomatic relations between Tajikistan and India were established were established in 1992.  The first Indian Ambassador to the Republic of Tajikistan with the residence in Tehran was accredited in 1993.  The Embassy of the Republic of India in Dushanbe has functioned since May 1994.  He Embassy of the Republic of Tajikistan was opened in New Delhi in 2003. 

The two countries have four bilateral consultative mechanisms: (a) Foreign Office Consultations; (b) Joint Working Group on Counter-terrorism; (c) Joint Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation; and (d) Joint Working Group on Defense Cooperation.
