A Tajikistan-Korea business forum that was held in Dushanbe on July 16 has resulted in signing of a number of cooperation documents.

More than 300 people, including representatives of Tajik and Korean business communities as well as senior representatives of relevant ministers and agencies of Tajikistan and Korea participated in the forum.  

Head of Tajikistan’s State Committee on Investment and State-owned Property Management (GosKomInvest) Farrukh Hamralizoda and Deputy Minister of Commerce, Industry and Energy of South Korea Kang Meng Su (phonetically spelled) addressed the meeting.

Mr. Hamralizoda, in particular, noted that there is considerable room for expansion of economic ties between the two countries.

“There are great resources for expansion of economic cooperation and it is necessary to develop them,” said Tajik official.  “We would be glad to attract investments from the Republic of Korea.” 

Mr. Kang, for his part, noted that Tajikistan is considered as one of key, important and strategic partners of a new project of Korea aiming to expand collaboration with Eurasian countries. 

The meeting participants reportedly discussed issues related to trade and economic cooperation between Tajikistan and South Korea and strengthening of the regional trade.

According to the GosKomInvest press center, a number of B2B meetings were held on the sidelines of the forum.

Tajik and Korean entrepreneurs signed a number of cooperation documents. 

Thus, Tajikistan’s Closed Joint-Stock Company (CJSC) Humo and Korea’s Kaula International Cooperation signed an agreement on launching a joint company.

Tajik National University and Incheon National University (INU) signed an agreement on cooperation.

Gayur LTD and Gaia Energy signed an agreement on production of LED lighting system.

Besides, several other cooperation agreements and memoranda of understanding on cooperation were signed during the forum.  

An exhibition of goods of Tajikistan’s producers was held on the sidelines of the forum. 

As part of their visit, Korean businesspeople also visited the Tajik Aluminum Company (TALCO), Danghara Free Economic Zone (FEZ Danghara), OJSC Guliston (Dushanbe-based garment factory) and the Production Association “Nasojii Tojik”.

The two sides reportedly agreed to hold meetings of representatives of the business communities of the two countries regularly.  

According to data from the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, the bilateral trade between Tajikistan and South Korea over the first five months of this year has valued at 12.9 million U.S. dollars (3.6 percent increase compared to January-May of 2018).  In January-May of 2018, the two-way trade between Tajikistan and South Korea reportedly amounted to 9.3 million U.S. dollars.
