The National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) says the report of the Accounts Chamber on financial damage revealed in Tajik central bank’s activities is “incorrect and unfounded.”

In a statement released on July 19, Tajik central bank, in particular, says that this information may cause a public misconception and undermine the NBT’s reputation.

Recall, the Accounts Chamber representatives noted on July 18 that inspections conducted at the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) and Amonatbonk (Tajikistan’s savings bank) in the first half of this year have revealed 9.1 million somoni worth of damage.  7.6 million somoni has reportedly been reimbursed.

It was noted that the above total includes the tax on road users in the amount of 6.2 million somoni charged by the National Bank of Tajikistan and the undercharged and hidden income taxes in the amount of 1.5 million.

Meanwhile, Tajik central bank notes that it has created the reserve to cover the possible losses and in due course it has reportedly transferred 6.2 million somoni in tax on road users to the national budget that is confirmed by payment orders.

As far as 1.5 million somoni, which according to the Accounts Chamber are undercharged and hidden income tax, are concerned, the NBT notes that inspection conducted by specialists of the Tax Committee at the request of the NBT has not revealed any income tax evasion cases and confirmed the correctness of accrual of tax payments.
