Tajik folk ensemble “Pamir” under the leadership of Ms. Sohiba Davlatshoyeva will participate in Sharq Taronalari (Melodies of Orient) International Music Festival that will take place in the Uzbek city of Samarqand from August 26 to August 30, according to the Ministry of Culture (MoC) of Tajikistan.

The festival was initiated by the late President Islam Karimov and is held under the aegis of UNESCO.

The main objective of the festival is in contributing to safeguarding folk music of the East which is one of the hallmarks of intangible cultural heritage. 

Sharq Taronalari is of the largest musical and cultural festivals in Central Asia.  The festival has been held at Samarkand’s Registan Square biannually since 1997.  The Sharq Taronalari festival brings together the most talented singers, dancers, and musicians to celebrate art from around the world.  Sharq Taronalari is reportedly inscribed on the UNESCO International Cultural Events list, and is a popular event for those looking to learn more about Uzbekistan and its heritage. 

More than 400 foreign guests from 80 countries of the world are expected to visit Sharq Taronalari 2019.  

Traditional guests of the festival are representatives of UNESCO, Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISECO) and the festival participants will include performers and music groups from Afghanistan, Armenia, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Pakistan, Russia, Spain, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan and some other countries.
