On Wednesday September 25, Mr. Usmonali Usmonzoda, the Minister of Energy and Water Resources of Tajikistan met here with Ms. Padamja Khandelwal, the head of the visiting mission of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

According to the press center of the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources (MoEWR), the two sides discussed financial prospects and risks for Tajikistan’s energy sector.

In the course of the talks, Usmonzoda and Khandelwal reportedly touched upon the issues related to financial aspects of construction of the Roghun hydroelectric power plant (HPP), priority markets for sale of electricity generated by the Roghun HPP, the procedure for accounting for payments received from operation of two units of this hydropower plant and transfer of the payments to the budget.

They also discussed the process of restructuring and financial recovery of Barqi Tojik (Tajikistan’s national integrated power company of Tajikistan), the MoEWR press center says.

The IMF mission led by Ms. Padamja Khandelwal arrived in Tajikistan at the beginning of the last week on a two-week visit at the request of Tajikistan’s authorities to discuss an economic reform program that could be supported by an IMF financial arrangement. They have already held talks with a number of economic cluster ministers, including the Minister of Finance Nematullo Hikmatullozoda.
