Tajik President Emomali Rahmon on October 11 held talks with his Turkmen counterpart Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in Ashgabat on the sidelines of the CIS summit. 

In the course of the talks, Rahmon and Berdimuhamedov discussed a number of issues related to state an prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between their countries, according to the Tajik president’s official website.    

They, in particular, pointed out role of the Intergovernmental Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation in expanding economic cooperation between the two countries.  

They reportedly outlined sectors light industry, mining, agriculture, transportation and hydropower as areas that could drive the bilateral trade between Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.    

Both leaders ordered their foreign ministries to organize politician and security consultations, Tajik president’s website said.    

Rahmon and Berdimuhamedov also discussed a number of regional issues being of mutual interest, including the current situation in Afghanistan. 

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan says Berdimuhamedov and Rahmon discussed the issues of developing and strengthening friendly and neighborly relations, as well as mutually beneficial cooperation.  Special attention was reportedly paid to the issues of cooperation in the spheres of transport and communications, as well as international cooperation on water management issues.

Recall, Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin met with his Turkmen counterpart Rashid Meredov in Ashgabat on October 9.

They discussed a number of issues related to Turkmen-Tajik ties in political, economic and cultural-humanitarian spheres.

Tajik and Turkmen top diplomats reportedly expressed confidence in that the meetings of the CIS foreign ministers and heads of state will make contribution to further expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation between the countries.
