Tajik athlete Somon Mahmadbekov now tops the Junior Judo World Ranking List in the -73kg weight category.

Somon has also ranked higher on the Judo World Ranking List for adults and on the Individual Olympic Ranking List. Somon with 2,488 point is ranked 19th on the Judo World Ranking List for adults and with 2,600 points he is ranked 14th on and on the Individual Olympic Ranking List    

Recall, Somon Mahmadbekov won gold medal for Tajikistan finishing first in the -73kg category at the World U-21 Judo Championships that was held in Marrakech, Morocco.

In the final, Somon Mahmadbekov defeated Russian judoka Georgii Elbakiyev, silver medalist of the 2018 Budapest Grand Prix. 

In all, 517 athletes, including 294 men and 223 women, from 81 countries of the world participated in the competitions competing for medals in 14 weight categories.

Five other Tajik athletes are listed among the top 50 junior judokas.   Jahongir Majidov (-81kg) is listed 8th, Mehrzod Sufiyev (-60kg) — 25th, Sharifjon Nazriyev (-100kg) — 26th, Muhammadrizo Quvvatov (-60kg) — 27th, and Shodmon Rizoyev (-66kg) – 35th.
