China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) has been chosen for construction of nine bridges in the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO), according to the Ministry of Transport.

An official source at a MoT says five companies, namely Motootryad (Tajikistan), Integral (Tajikistan), Sinohydro (Chinese state-owned hydropower engineering and construction company), Southern Construction Company (Lebanon) and China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), participated in a tender for implementation of this project.

China Road and Bridge Corporation has been chosen for construction of nine bridges in GBAO’s Vanj and Rushan districts.

The bridges will be constructed in the framework of the Strengthening Critical Infrastructure Against Natural Hazards Project for Tajikistan.

The bridges are planned to be constructed in 18 months and estimated budget for this contract is about 76.2 million somoni (equivalent to 7.8 million U.S. dollars).

The development objectives of the Strengthening Critical Infrastructure Against Natural Hazards Project for Tajikistan are to strengthen the recipient's disaster risk management capacities, enhance the resilience of its critical infrastructure against natural hazards, and improve its capacity to respond to disasters.

As it had been reported earlier, China is expected to award a US$230 million grant to Tajikistan for rehabilitation of a 92-kilometer road in the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region — from Qalai Khumb, the administrative center of the Darvoz district, to the Rushan district road.

China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), a subsidiary of Fortune Global 500[1] company China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), focuses on global civil engineering and construction projects such as highways, railways, bridges, ports, and tunnels.  Growing out of the Foreign Aid Office of the Ministry of Communications of China, CRBC and its predecessors have been executing projects since 1958.  In 1979, CRBC was formally established and entered the international contracting market. The parent entity, CCCC, was formed through the combination of CRBC and China Harbour Engineering Co Ltd (CHEC) in 2005.

CRBC is among the largest engineering and construction firms globally, and operates from more than 50 branches and offices throughout Asia, Africa, Europe and the Americas.
