Rahmon receives European Parliament’s delegation

On Friday November 1, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon received the European Parliament's delegation led by Mr. Fulvio Martusciello, Chair of the Delegation to the EU-Kazakhstan, EU-Kyrgyzstan, EU-Uzbekistan and EU-Tajikistan Parliamentary Cooperation Committees and for relations with Turkmenistan and Mongolia, according to the Tajik president’s official website.

In the course of the talks, the two sides reportedly discussed state and prospects of further expansion of cooperation between Tajikistan and the European Union in the fields of economics, culture, security and observance of human rights.

Emomali Rahmon noted that Tajikistan was interested in further expansion of cooperation with the European in the areas such as education, lawmaking, promotion of the rule of law, security and observance of human rights.  

The sides reportedly also exchanged views on issues related to providing security and achieving peace and accord in Afghanistan. 

The European Parliament delegation was in Dushanbe from October 31 to November 3.  The main purpose of the visit was for the delegation to participate in the 8th Session of the EU – Tajikistan Parliamentary Cooperation Committee, which took place here on October 31.

Muhammadato Sultonov, a spokesman for the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament), says the session participants discussed a wide range of issues related to cooperation between the Majlisi Namoyandagon and the European Parliament.  Mr. Sharif Rahimzoda, the head of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower house of parliament) Committee on Economics and Finance, led the Tajik delegation.  He informed members of the European Parliament about economic achievements made by Tajikistan and called on members of the European Parliament to provide assistance with attraction of European investments in Tajikistan’s economy, Sultonov said.
