Tajikistan has established diplomatic relations with Barbados.  A ceremony of signing of a joint statement on the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries has been signed in New York.

The Tajik MFA information department says the document was inked by Mr. Mahmadamim Mahmadaminov, Tajikistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations  and Ms. Elizabeth Thompson, the Permanent Representative of Barbados to the United Nations. 

Barbados is an island country in the Lesser Antilles of the West Indies, in the Caribbean region of North America.  It is 34 kilometers in length and up to 23 kilometers in width, covering an area of 432 square kilometers.  Its capital and largest city is Bridgetown.

Barbados is the 53rd richest country in the world in terms of GDP (Gross Domestic Product) per capita, has a well-developed mixed economy, and a moderately high standard of living.  Barbados reportedly maintains the third largest stock exchange in the Caribbean region. 

According to data from the Tajik MFA, Tajikistan has established diplomatic relations with 173 countries of the world by August this year.
