Mayor’s decision to determine the procedure of operation of Internet through Wi-Fi (wireless technology) in Dushanbe does not mean that Wi-Fi is taken under control in the Tajik capital, Saadi Samadov, the head of the State Unitary Enterprise (SUE) Smart City, told Asia-Plus in an interview.

“This decision is aimed, first of all, at expanding operation of Internet through Wi-Fi in Dushanbe,” Samadov said.

According to him, the SUE Smart City has been established to intensify the city authorities’ efforts to improve the Tajik capital.

Asked about the procedure of registration of legal and physical entities offering Wi-Fi Internet services, Samadov said the owners of Wi-Fi points in parks, at public transport stops and public catering facilities points y would be registered free of charge.

“As far as the issue of providing security of users of free Wi-Fi in public places is concerned, I can say that according to the rules of providers, people are provided with special codes to connect their mobile phones to Wi-Fi.  This measure will allow persuading users not to visit undesirable websites,” Samadov added.

Recall, the Dushanbe Administration press center says a “Smart City” enterprise has been established in Dushanbe to receive reports on the operation of the digital data transmission format over the radio channels.  A relevant decision adopted by the Dushanbe mayor is reportedly aimed at protecting information security, providing security of citizens and improving Internet services.

By mayor’s decree the State Unitary Enterprise (SUE) Smart City has been established to provide transparency and security of information technologies, the Dushanbe Administration officials say.
