Tajik authorities intend to cover deficit of the national budget for 2020 due to borrowings and grants.

The Government of Tajikistan hopes to cover more than 70 percent of the deficit of the country’s budget for 2020 through attracting external and internal borrowings as well as grants from international financial institutions.

Thus, to cover the budget deficit the government hopes to attract loans and grants equal to 150 million somoni from international financial institutions.

Besides, the government plans to use for these purposes 100 million somoni that it will earn from the sale of treasury bills, says the national budget for 2020.

The ceiling for the 2020 budget deficit is projected to be some 350 million somoni (equivalent to 36 million U.S. dollars), equal to 0.4 percent of the country’s gross domestic project (GDP).

Besides, the following sources are provided for covering the budget deficit:

  • Income from privatization and lease of republican property as well as dividends of state shares – 25 million somoni;
  • Free budget funds as of January 1, 2020 – 34 million somoni;
  • Savings from tenders for public procurement of goods, works and services – 30.5 million somoni;
  • Overfulfillment of local budgets’ revenues – 9.9 million somoni.

Revenues of the 2020 budget are projected to stand at more than 26 billion somoni and expenditures of the 2020 budget are projected to stand at 26.4 billion somoni.
