Tajikistan has increased production of building materials 2.5 times over the past eight years

Over the past eight years, the number of the building materials manufacturing enterprises has increased in Tajikistan almost 2.5 times, according to the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies (MoINT).

“The number of the building materials manufacturing enterprises increased in the country from 207 in 2010 to 508 in 2018,” an official source at a MoINT told Asia-Plus in an interview.  

According to him, the number of the building materials manufacturing enterprises has increased in the country 16 times over the years of independence.  In 1991, only 32 building materials manufacturing enterprises operated in Tajikistan.  

Over the years of independence, the number employees working for these enterprises has increased almost three times, the source added.

In 2018, 9,700 people reportedly worked for the building materials manufacturing enterprises in Tajikistan.  

According to the statistical data from the MoINT, Tajikistan has produced a total of 2.5 billion somoni (equivalent to 258 million USD) worth of building materials over the first eleven months of this year, which is 322 million somoni more than in the same period last year.      

In January-November this year, the share of building materials amounted to 10.4 percent of the overall volume of industrial goods produced over the report period.  

Over the same eleven-month period, Tajikistan has reportedly exported a total of US$65.3 million worth of building materials, with the share of cement being more than 99 percent (US$64.9 million).
