“We should remove bureaucratic obstacles on the way of export of Tajik goods,” President Emomali Rahmon told a joint meeting of both chambers of parliament on December 26.

According to him, the share of exports in the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) has increased from 18.9 percent in 2013 to 27.4 percent in 2019.  “But this is not enough, growth rates are very low.  Moreover, raw materials account for 90 percent of exports,” Rahmon noted.

“Therefore, we have made a decision that when giving license to domestic or foreign entrepreneurs to explore and develop mineral deposits we will sign agreements with them on processing minerals into manufactured products,” the head of state said.

According to him, one of key problems impeding development of exports is insufficient advertisement of Tajik goods.  He ordered the Chamber of Commerce and Industry to take measures to solve this problem.

In his address, Emomali Rahmon also called on top managers of the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) and local commercial banks to help domestic producers.

“The objective of the banking sphere is in contributing to development of the national economy but not in protecting banks’ interests.  It is necessary to increase financing of all sectors of, especially the productive sector.  It is also necessary to lower interest rates on bank loans,” the head of state said.

The president ordered relevant bodies to work out the export development program for 2021-2025.
