A pre-election congress of the Communist Party of Tajikistan (CPT) that took place in Dushanbe on December 28 has endorsed the list of candidates nominated for election through the proportional representation (party list).

CPT leader Miroj Abdulloyev says the CPT's party list includes five persons, including its leader and journalist Haibullo Yorov.

“Besides, six our candidates will run for parliament in single-mandate constituencies,” CPT leader noted.

According to him, they intend to return to the Parliament.

Miroj Abdulloyev (born August 15, 1948) succeeded acting chairman Mirzoazim Nasimov on April 22, 2017, following the death of short serving party leader Ismoil Talbakov in 2016.

The Communist Party of Tajikistan has lost its two seats in parliament as it failed to pass a 5-percent threshold to get into Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower house of parliament) in March 2015.

Founded in 1918, the Communist Party of Tajikistan was registered in 1991.  According to some sources, the party now has some 30,000 members.

The Majlisi Namoyandagon is the lower house of Tajikistan’s parliament.  It has 63 members, elected for a five-year term in, 22 by proportional representation (party list) and 41 in single-seat constituencies.
