Due to the established national transfer processing center financial literacy of the population has improved, Jamoliddin Nouraliyev, First Deputy Head of the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT), told reporters in Dushanbe on February 5.

Before that, many Tajik lending agencies had not been ready for various threats, according to him.

“Some banks were vulnerable to hacker attacks. Due to this mechanism (national processing center – Asia-Plus), banks have installed new antivirus programs and replaced programs of 1997 with the program of 2019, and the level of protection of banks has increased significantly,” NBT official noted.

Moreover, before the establishment of the national processing center the vulnerability of the country’s financial system was high, he said.

“This is one of the greatest historical reforms of the Government of Tajikistan (establishment of the processing center – Asia-Plus), which should have been carried out twenty years ago.  This reform has no analogues in the world.  Even if we are listed among low-income countries, we have the right to carry out unprecedented reform.  We have to be proud of it,” he said.  .

Nouraliyev noted that the main objective of the national processing center was in, first of all, eliminating vulnerability of the country’s financial system, protecting rights of consumers and preventing financing of terrorism.

“We now can safely say that we are able to prevent any threats and challenges,” NBT deputy head said.

Meanwhile, NBT head Jamshed Nourmahmadzoda noted that labor migrants’ remittances reduced by 9.6 percent or 18 million U.S. dollars in December last year.

”Such declines in remittances take place during period every year,” said Nourmahmadzoda.  “For example, in December 2018, labor migrants’ remittance flows reduced by 35 million U.S. dollars.”

As a whole, labor migrants’ remittances last year increased by more than 6.0 percent or 163 million U.S. dollars, reaching 2.73 billion U.S. dollars, Tajik central bank head added.
