On May 27, 2020, a special flight of Air India was organized by the Government of India for repatriation of Tajik citizens stranded in India and Indian citizens stranded in Tajikistan, according to the Indian Embassy in Dushanbe.

The flight AI-1983 brought home 45 Tajik citizens, who were studying under various courses sponsored by the Government of India and were unable to return home due to Covid19 crisis and closure of airports in both India and Tajikistan. On return, the flight carried 143 Indian citizens from Dushanbe to Kannur (Kerala).

2. On May 28, 2020, a second special flight of Air India is expected to take another 143 Indian citizens from Dushanbe to Jaipur (Rajasthan). One Tajik citizen will also be arriving in Dushanbe by this special Air India flight on May 28, 2020.

3. Embassy is in touch with concerned authorities in India to expeditiously organize additional flights to evacuate the remaining Indians in Tajikistan who have expressed the desire to return to India.

4. Operation of these special flights demonstrates the excellent bilateral relationship between India and Tajikistan and the close cooperation on all issues including in the area of people to people ties.

5. On behalf of the Government of India, the Indian Embassy in Dushanbe would like to thank the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, especially the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan, Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population of Tajikistan, Civil Aviation Authority of Tajikistan and Dushanbe International Airport for their support and cooperation.

6. Ministry of External Affairs of India, Ministry of Civil Aviation of India, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of India, Ministry of Home Affairs of India and Air India have been instrumental in arranging these special flights and receiving the Indians that are being evacuated from Tajikistan and the rest of the world. The Embassy deeply appreciates the efforts of these Ministries and thanks them for their invaluable cooperation and support.
