Ayten Rustamova, Head of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in Tajikistan, expressed the interest of this financial institution in establishing cooperation with the Tajik Railways.

This was announced on September 16 during a virtual meeting of the EBRD representatives with the Minister of Transport of Tajikistan Azim Ibrohim, the Tajik transport department reports.

To expand further cooperation, the Minister proposed a number of transport projects to the EBRD representatives.

Ayten Rustamova, in turn, noted that the EBRD cooperates with the railways of many countries and therefore offered assistance to the Tajik railway.

Note that Tajikistan needs investment to build its section of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan railway.

The agreement on the construction of this road was reached by the heads of the three countries in 2013.

The Turkmen side in 2016 completed the construction of its part of the road and is currently laying a section of the road in Afghanistan.

However, the construction of the Tajik section is postponed due to lack of financial resources.
