He held the post of commander of a company first, and then a battalion of internal troops.

In 2009-2012, he was the commander of the 3rd separate Red Banner special purpose brigade of the internal troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (military unit 3214), then – deputy head of the combat and operational training department of the Main Directorate of the commander of the internal troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Belarus.

In May 2018, he was appointed Deputy Commander of the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus.

On August 13, 2020, in the wake of civil confrontation in Belarus, Lukashenko awarded Atobekov the medal "For impeccable service of the 1st degree".
