World leaders congratulate Emomali Rahmon on reelection

Leaders of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Iran have congratulated Emomali Rahmon on his re-election to a fifth term.

On October 12, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon had telephone conversations with presidents of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Belarus, according to the Tajik president’s official website.   

They congratulated Emomali Rahmon on re-election as the President of Tajikistan.  In the course of the telephone conversations, Emomali Rahmon also discussed with them issues related to bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and their countries.      

Russian President Vladimir Putin noted in his message of congratulations that the election results had confirmed high political authority, nationwide support for the course aimed at socioeconomic development of Tajikistan and strengthening of its international position.

Russian leader also noted that Russia attached significance to relations of strategic partnership and alliance with Tajikistan.  

Iranian government’s website says that in a message on Monday, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hassan Rouhani warmly congratulated Emomali Rahmon on his re-election as the President of the Republic of Tajikistan.

The Iranian president reportedly also expressed confidence that the cultural and historical commonalities between the two friendly and brotherly nations would allow the relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Tajikistan to further grow in all fields during President Rahmon’s new term for the fulfillment of the common interests and strengthening regional peace and stability.

He finally wished the Tajik president and nation health and prosperity.

Emomali Rahmon, 68, secured another seven-year term after garnering 90.92 percent of votes in a nationwide poll in Tajikistan.

Around 85 per cent of the country’s five million eligible voters handed in their ballots, according to authorities.
