39 new officially confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) were reported in Tajikistan yesterday, bringing a total number of officially confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the country to 10,939 as of the evening of October 29, according to the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population (MoHSPP).

The COVID-19 pandemic in Tajikistan is part of the worldwide pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2).  The virus was confirmed to have spread to Tajikistan when its index cases, in Dushanbe and Khujand, were confirmed on April 30, 2020.

Meanwhile Tajikistan chief infectiologist Erkin Rahmonov says that although the failure to comply with preventive measures threatens the country with a very pessimistic scenario, the country’s health sector is ready for it, according to Sputnik Tajikistan

“If a second wave of VOCID-19 occurs, we have reserves.  We have provided the Dushanbe infectious diseases hospital with additional ventilators.  Besides, there 500 beds in hospitals and 160 beds in special trailers provided by Uzbekistan,” Rahmonov told Sputnik Tajikistan.

The coronavirus COVID-19 is affecting 215 countries and territories around the world and 2 international conveyances.

According to COVID-19 data provided by Worldometer, coronavirus cases around the globe have been reported at 45,346,910 since China reported its first cases to the World Health Organization (WHO) in December last year.  Of them, 32,995,341 have recovered and 1,186,385 have died.
