Tajik, Russian capitals sign cooperation program for the period up to 2023

During his working visit to Moscow, Dushanbe Mayor Rustam Emomali, who is also Speaker of the Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper chamber of parliament), yesterday met with Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin.   

According to the Moscow mayor’s official website, the two discussed a broad range of issues related to the bilateral cooperation between Dushanbe and Moscow and outlined priorities of further cooperation.  

The Majlisi Milli press center says Emomali and Sobyanin mainly discussed issues related to expansion of trade and economic cooperation, humanitarian and cultural cooperation, as well as cooperation between the two cities in the fields of health care, tourism and so forth.

The two sides also agreed to hold a festival of friendship of youth of Dushanbe and Moscow and continue discussing the project on creation of the national pavilion of Tajikistan at the All-Russian Exhibition Center in Moscow that will be a visiting card of the republic in Russia.    

The meeting reportedly resulted in signing of the cooperation program designed for 2020-2023.  The program covers practically all areas of cooperation.  

Rustam Emomali invited Moscow mayor to visit Dushanbe at any time convenient for him.  The invitation was reportedly accepted with satisfaction.  

Bilateral cooperation between the capitals of Tajikistan and Russia are based on cooperation agreements signed on July 7, 1995 and November 29, 1996.

Last year, a two-way trade between Tajikistan and Moscow valued at US$58.8 million.  This consisted of Tajikistan’s exports to Moscow estimated at US$8.4 million and Tajikistan’s imports from Moscow worth US$50.4 million.
