The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has facilitated the return home of 376 Tajik migrants who had been stranded at the Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan border.

According to IOM mission for Central Asia, the new group of Tajik migrants arrived home on December 1.

Since introduction of quarantine measures, the International Organization for Migration – United Nations Migration Agency – in cooperation with the Governments, NGOs and Diaspora representatives has reportedly facilitated voluntary return of 3120 nationals from Kazakhstan through Uzbekistan to Tajikistan by land through the territory of Uzbekistan; among them are women, children, migrant workers, and students. They all were stranded at the Zhibek Zholi border point at the Kazakhstan border with Uzbekistan in the hope of continuing their journey home to Tajikistan.

Every year, a considerable percentage of the population migrates to find jobs abroad due to the country's poor, rural and landlocked economy and its young and mobile population.
