Next year, Tajik companies exporting fruits and vegetables to Russia by rail will enjoy discounts on transportation provided by Russian Railways (Russian state-owned railway company),.

Russian Railways on December 21 announced its decision to reduce rates for transportation of black metals, containers, piggyback trailers and fruit-and-vegetable products.

Thus, a 50-percent discount will be given to transportation of fruits and vegetables from Tajikistan and Uzbekistan by refrigerated rolling stocks of Tajik and Uzbek railway companies during the period from January 1, 2021 to December 31, 2021.

This discount will be valid on the condition that Russian Railways will be exempted from paying fees for the use of refrigerated rolling stocks of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

According to data from the Ministry of Agriculture and the Customs Service of Tajikistan, Tajikistan has exported more than US$17 million worth of more than 120,000 tons of agricultural goods over the first ten months of this year, which is US$5.6 million more than in the same period last year.

Onions, grapes and dried fruits account for the bulk of Tajikistan’s agricultural goods exports.  Tajikistan exports agricultural goods mainly to Russia, Kazakhstan, China and the European Union countries.
