The Hydrometeorology Agency (Hydromet) says a cold weather is expected to hit Tajikistan this week    

In the mountain areas, the temperature will drop to 22 degrees below zero. All these days, frost phenomena and fog persist in the country.

On January 8 and 9, nighttime temperatures in mountain areas are expected to fluctuate from -10ºC to -15ºC, while in some mountain areas, the temperature will drop to -22ºC, according to Hydromet. 

In the Bulunkul area of the eastern part of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO), , the temperature will drop to -50ºC.   

Bulunkul is a shallow, freshwater lake in GBAO, about 130 kilometers east of Khorog, the capital of GBAO.  Lying in the upper Gunt valley of the Pamir Mountains, it has an area of 3900 ha with a maximum depth of 6 meters.  Dense vegetation covers much of its surface.  It is 1.5 kilometers from a similar lake, Yashilkul, both of which are surrounded by other wetlands as well as sand and pebble plains. It forms part of the Bulunkul and Yashilkul lakes and mountains Important Bird Area.  The village of Bulunkul is known as one of the coldest inhabited places in Central Asia with a record minimum temperature of -63 degrees Celsius.

In Khatlon province, the weather will be partly cloudy tomorrow; no precipitation is expected, a foggy is expected in some places.  In plains, nighttime temperatures are expected to fluctuate from -4ºC to -9ºC  and daytime temperatures will be from 0ºC to -5ºC.  In foothills, nighttime temperatures will fluctuate from -6ºC to -11ºC and daytime temperatures are expected to fluctuate from -2ºC to +3ºC. 

In GBAO, the weather will be partly cloudy; no precipitation is expected; a foggy is expected in some areas of western part of GBAO.

In the western part of GBAO, nighttime temperatures are from +10ºC to +15ºC and daytime temperatures are expected to fluctuate from -2ºC to -7ºC.

In the eastern part of GBAO, nighttime temperatures are from -28ºC to -33ºC (in Bulunkul area, the temperature will drop to -48ºC) and daytime temperatures will fluctuate from -14ºC to -19ºC (in Bulunkul area, daytime temperatures will fluctuate from -23ºC to -25ºC).  

In Sughd province, the weather will be partly cloudy; no precipitation is expected, a foggy is expected in some areas.  In plains, nighttime temperatures are expected to fluctuate from -3ºC to -8ºC and daytime temperatures will be from -3ºC to +2ºC.  In mountain areas, nighttime temperatures will fluctuate from -12ºC to -17ºC and daytime temperatures are expected to fluctuate from -1ºC to -6ºC. 

In districts subordinate to the center, the weather will be partly cloudy; no precipitation is expected, a foggy is expected in some areas.  In plains, nighttime temperatures are expected to fluctuate from -4ºC to -9ºC and daytime temperatures will be from -2ºC to +3ºC.  In mountain areas, nighttime temperatures will fluctuate from -10ºC to -15ºC (in some areas, nighttime temperatures will fluctuate from -16ºC to -21ºC) and daytime temperatures are expected to fluctuate from 0ºC to -5ºC (in some areas, daytime temperatures are expected to fluctuate from -5ºC to -10ºC) .

In Dushanbe, the weather will be partly cloudy; no precipitation is expected, a foggy is expected.  Nighttime temperatures are from -6ºC to -8ºC and daytime temperatures are expected to fluctuate from +1ºC to +3ºC.
