According to the data from the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population (MoHSPP), no new officially confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) were reported in Tajikistan yesterday and as of the evening of January 6, 2021, the number of people infected with the coronavirus remains unchanged in Tajikistan – 13,305.

Recall, no new officially confirmed coronavirus cases were reported in Tajikistan on December 31, January 1, 3 and 4.

The number of coronavirus-linked deaths remains the same in the country – 90, a MoHSPP says.

Meanwhile, 41 COVID-19 patients reportedly discharged after recovery yesterday.  In all, 13,111 coronavirus patients have reportedly recovered in the country as of the evening of January 6, 2021.

The COVID-19 pandemic in Tajikistan is part of the worldwide pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2).  The virus was confirmed to have spread to Tajikistan when its index cases, in Dushanbe and Khujand, were confirmed on April 30, 2020.

The virus is reportedly affecting 218 countries and territories around the world and two international conveyances.

Meanwhile, the World Health Organization (WHO) says the so-called ‘British’ strain of coronavirus was detected in 41 countries and territories.

It is noted that the variety of coronavirus VOC-202012/01 was initially found in the United Kingdom.  The recent reports on different variants of SARS-CoV-2 that causes COVID-19 provoked interest and concern over the impact of viral modifications.

“As of 5 January 2021, the VOC-202012/01 variant initially detected in the United Kingdom has been detected in a small number of cases in 40 other countries/territories/areas in five of the six WHO regions,” the message said.

WHO urged Europeans to strengthen approaches to control and prevent the spread of the virus due to the appearance of a new strain of coronavirus in some European countries.
