On Sunday January 10, the Ambassador of Tajikistan to Kuwait Zubaydullo Zubaydzoda met in Kuwait City with Mr. Marzouq Ali Mohammed Al-Ghanim, Speaker of the National Assembly of the State of Kuwait.

In the course of the talks, the parties discussed issues of related to expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Kuwait, including inter-parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.

They also exchanged views on a number of regional and interntional issues being of mutual interest, according to the Tajik MFA information department.

Ambassador Zubaydzoda reportedly conveyed congratulatory letters from the Chairman of the Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper chamber of parliament) Rustam Emomali and the Chairman of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) Mahmadtoir Zokirzoda on the occasion of the reelection of Mr. Marzouq Ali Mohammed Al-Ghanim as the Speaker of the National Assembly of the State of Kuwait.

Marzouq Ali Mohammed Al-Ghanim (b. 3 November 1968) is the current speaker of the Kuwaiti National Assembly, representing the second district.  Al-Ghanim earned a BSc in mechanical engineering from Seattle University and worked for Boubyan Petrochemical Company before being elected to the National Assembly in 2006.  He is the son of Ali Mohammed Thunayan Al-Ghanim and Faiza Al-Kharafi.  He was elected as the Speaker in 2013.

The National Assembly is the unicameral legislature of Kuwait.  Its members are chosen through direct election; the country is divided into five electoral districts with ten members representing each district. The National Assembly is made up of 50 elected members as well as up to 16 appointed government ministers who are ex officio members.
