On Wednesday January 13, Mahmadtoir Zokirzoda, Head of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament), received Igor Lyakin-Frolov, Russian Ambassador to Tajikistan.

In the course of the talks, the two discussed issues related to expansion of inter-parliamentary cooperation between Tajikistan and Russia, Muhammadato Sultonov, a spokesman for the Majlisi Namoyandagon, told Asia-Plus in an interview.

Zokirzoda reportedly noted that “personal friendship and a high level of confidence, which have evolved between the leaders of the two countries – Emomali Rahmon and Vladimir Putin –, are one of the powerful engines for expansion of cooperation between Dushanbe and Moscow in all fields.”

Zokirzoda and Lyakin-Frolov also discussed issues of economic, transport, cultural and educational cooperation between Tajikistan and Russia as well as well problems of labor migration and the fight against COVID-19.

The parties, in particular, noted that there was a considerable room for expansion of economic ties between the two countries.
