Flour prices are continuing to rise in Tajikistan.  An annual price for a 50-kilogram sack of grade I wheat four rose 10 percent in Tajikistan in a year to January 1, 2021, reaching 240.00 somonis.  As of January 1, 2020, an annual price for a 50 kilogram sack of grade 1 wheat flour was 220 somonis.

Meanwhile, over the past five years, an annual price for a 50-kilogram of grade I wheat flour has risen 40 percent – from 170.00 somonis to 240.00 somonis.

Current annual price for on kilogram of grade I wheat flour at Dushanbe’s bazaars is 4.85 somonis.  In 2017, an annual price for one kilogram of grade I wheat flour at Dushanbe’s bazaars was 3.30 somonis.

In 2018 and early 2019, an annual price for a 50-kilogram of grade I wheat flour was 190.00 somonis.

Experts say the price hike has resulted from the rising cost of wheat in the countries that provide the bulk of Tajikistan’s wheat and flour imports and rising transit tariffs.

Current Tajikistan’s requirements in wheat flour are approximately 1.2 million tons.
