Majlisi Milli speaker, Russian ambassador discuss Tajik-Russian inter-parliamentary cooperation

Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper house of parliament) Chairman Rustam Emomali, who is also Mayor of Dushanbe, yesterday received Russian Ambassador to Tajikistan Igor Lyakin-Frolov at his request.

Khovar news agency says Rustam Emomali appreciated Russian ambassador’s efforts to promote further expansion of inter-parliamentary cooperation between Tajikistan and the Russia Federation  

Majlisi Milli speaker reportedly expressed readiness of the Tajik side to outline priorities of the bilateral cooperation with Russia, which is an important strategic partner of Tajikistan.  

In the course of the talks, the parties also exchanged views on a role of parliamentary diplomacy as a key element of the interstate cooperation at the present stage. 

In this connection, they emphasized the importance of collaboration in the framework of multilateral agreements, first of all, CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly and the Collective Security treaty Organization (CSTO) Parliamentary Assembly and their contribution to development of legal environment. 

Rustam Emomali reportedly noted that expansion of cooperation within the framework of the CSTO Parliamentary is one priorities of Tajikistan’s rotating chairmanship in the CSTO.
