Given the previous years, wage arrears in Tajikistan have amounted to about 84.8 million somonis (equivalent to 7.5 million U.S. dollars) as of February 1, 2021, according the Agency for Statistics under President of Tajikistan.

Tajikistan’s wage arrears reportedly rose 75 percent in a year to February, 2021 alone – from 48.5 million somonis to 84.8 million somonis.  

In January, employers reportedly owed their employees more than 4.2 million somonis (equivalent to more than 379,000 U.S. dollars).   

The highest wage arrears were reported in the processing industry – 24.8 million somonis.  It is followed by mining sector (16.6 million somonis). The total wage debt in these two sectors account for some 50 percent of the country’s wage arrears

It is to be noted that coronavirus pandemic has negatively affected many sectors of the country’s economy, and as a result, employers have failed to pay wages to their employees on time and in full volume.

As of February 1, 2021, an average monthly nominal wage in Tajikistan amounted to 1,445 somonis (equivalent to 128 U.S. dollars).

Tajikistan's minimum wage is 400.00 somonis (equivalent to 36 U.S. dollars) per month.

In Tajikistan, the highest average monthly wage has been reported in the financial sector – 3,452 somonis.

The lowest average monthly wage has been reported in the agrarian sector – 630 somonis.
