Private hospitals in Tajikistan are not eligible to vaccinate against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) since they do not have a license, Navrouz Jaffarov, an official with the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population (MoHSPP), told Asia-Plus in an interview.

“Licenses granted to private hospitals do not provide for such an activity, and therefore, private medical facilities are not eligible to vaccinate against COVID-19,” he said.

According to him, to administer COVID-19 vaccines, the private hospitals must get permission from the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population and an appropriate license.

Jaffarov noted that if private hospitals are allowed administering COVID-19 vaccine, vaccination in private clinics will be paid.

He further added that to-date, Vaxzevria (previously COVID-19 vaccine AstraZeneca) had still been delivered to Tajikistan.

“There are no other registered vaccines in the country yet,” Jaffarov said.

Meanwhile, Tajikistan intends to register Russian Sputnik vaccine and Chinese Coronavac vaccine, and Tajik nationals will have an opportunity to choose which vaccine they receive.
