The Government of Tajikistan has opened a special bank account to provide assistance to residents of Isfara (Vorukh, Chorkuh, Surkh, Somonioyon and Kahoka Aloe) who became victims of clashes that took place at the Tajik-Kyrgyz border.

Anyone, both within the country and from other countries, can send funds to this account.

The bank requisites are published on a May 6 Asia-Plus news bulletin.

Recall, Tajik authorities have said in their first official data on the violence that 19 Tajik citizens were killed and 87 others injured in clashes along a disputed segment of the border with Kyrgyzstan in late April.

The official statement by the authorities of the northern Sughd region on May 6 said that all of the victims were from villages close to the border.

Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan share 976 kilometers of border – of which only 504 kilometers has reportedly been properly delineated, leading to tensions for the past 30 years.  The latest clash that took place on April 28-29 was the heaviest in years and raised fears of a wider conflict between the two impoverished neighbors.
