The Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population (MoHSPP) is seriously concerned over the development of the epidemiological situation in neighboring countries and specialists at the border crossing points (BCPs) now work seven days a week,” Navrouz Jafarov, the head of Health Ministry Directorate for Epidemiological Safety, Emergencies and   Emergency Medical Care, told Asia-Plus in an interview. 

“Tajikistan, however, is not going to tighten measures,” Jafarov noted.  

According to him, vaccination of priority group is being carried out in accordance with the previously approved plan.

“74,400 of 86,400 members of the priority group have been vaccinated against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) by May 24,” Jafarov said.  .  

Recall, India on March 8 delivered to Tajikistan 192,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine, known as Covishield in India.  The vaccines arrived as part of India's commitment made to the world to use India's vaccine production and delivery capacity to help all of the human fight the Covid-19 pandemic.  Tajikistan was expected to receive 624000 more doses of COVID-19 vaccines through COVAX this month.

Asked when the remaining 1.8 million doses of the vaccine will arrive in the country, Tajik chief sanitary inspector noted that in connection with current epidemiological situation in India, which produces the largest volume of the vaccine doses,  the vaccine transfer schedule has been disrupted for most countries of Europe, Africa and Asia.   

According to him, only doses of AstraZeneca vaccine have been delivered to Tajikistan so far..  

As far as the delivery of the Chinese vaccine to the country, Tajik health official noted that Tajikistan and China had reached an agreement on the delivery of 300,000 doses of SinoVac vaccine to Tajikistan.  People will receive the Chinese vaccine with a two- or four-week interval.   

He further noted that negotiations on the delivery of the Sputnik V Covid-19 vaccine had been conducted with the Russian officials through diplomatic channels.
