The Tajik authorities decide to double customs duties on the import of poultry meat, noodles and tobacco products.

By government’s regulation issued on May 27 the rate of customs duties on poultry meat, poultry offal and noodles will be raised from 10% to 20%.

The government’s regulation also stipulates to raise the rate of customs duties on raw tobacco and tobacco waste from5% to 10%, the rate of customs duties on cigars, cropped cigars, cigarillos and cigarettes made from tobacco or tobacco substitutes from 23% to 46% and the rate of customs duties on “homogenized” or “reconstituted” tobacco, tobacco extracts and essences from 18% to 36%. 

It was previously reported that the government plans to double excise tax tobacco and industrial tobacco substitutes

The regulation regarding a twofold increase in the rates of customs duties for imported poultry meat and tobacco products will take force after being published in a state-run Jumhuriyat newspaper and the new rates of customs duties for noodles will take force beginning on January 1, 2022.  

The rates on customs duties are usually raised for the purpose of reducing the volume of importation of unwanted products into the country.
