On Tuesday July 27, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon received General Wei Fenghe, the Minister of Defense of China, who is currently on an official visit to Tajikistan.

According to the Tajik president’s official website, Emomali Rahmon expressed satisfaction with the current all-round relationships between Tajikistan and China in the fields of politics, economics and culture.

Tajik leader noted that cooperation in the fields of defense and security is one of significant aspects of bilateral collaboration between the two countries.  

Rahmon emphasized that a joint fight against terrorism, extremism, separatism, transnational organized crime, drug trafficking and cybercrime is of significant importance for both countries.  

In the course of the talks, the two sides reportedly confirmed their readiness in this direction both on a bilateral basis and in frameworks of international and regional organizations.

Tajik president also informed Chinese defense minister about measures taken by official Dushanbe to strengthen border control.   

In view of the latest developments in neighboring Afghanistan, the two sides pointed the necessity of coordinating actions of the countries in this direction, the Tajik president’s official website says. 

Wei Fenghe (born February 1954) is a general in the Chinese People's Liberation Army who served as commander of the PLA Rocket Force, formerly known as the Second Artillery Corps.  He is Minister of National Defense and the first-ranked State Councilor in Li Keqiang Cabinet II from March 2018, and also the first-ranked ordinary Member of the Xi Jinping-chaired Central Military Commission.
