The Political Council of the Democratic Party of Tajikistan (DPT) has appealed to the Standing Committee on COVID-19 Response (Committee) to impose a 20-day quarantine amid coronavirus concerns

“Over the last months, the number of reports about the spread of the infection in cities and villages of the country has increased.  People report an increase in the number of cases of the disease in hospitals and at homes,” says the appeal posted on DPT leader’s Facebook page.

Democrats note that many people ignore the Committee’s requirements and recommendations to wear face masks and practice social distancing in public places and transport and the sanitary condition of many bazaars, shops and transport means does not meet the requirements of the day.

The appeal also emphasizes that the increase in the number of COVID-19 infection cases is reported in the period when the country is making preparations for the 30th anniversary of Tajikistan’s independence, which will be celebrated on September 9 this year.

“To prevent the further spread of the disease among the population and accelerate the treatment of patients before the celebration of the 30th anniversary of independence, we propose to declare a 20-day quarantine throughout the country,” the appeal says.
